Your questions,
answered.
Wondering what therapy looks like, how it works, or whether it's right for you? Everything you need to know is here.
The first session is about getting to know each other. I'll ask about what brought you here, your history, and what you're hoping to get out of therapy. There's no pressure to share everything at once. My goal is to make you feel comfortable and to start building a sense of safety. Many clients say they felt relieved just by showing up.
If you've been carrying something heavy, whether that's anxiety, shame, anger, relationship struggles, or a feeling of being stuck, therapy can help. You don't need to be in crisis to deserve support. The fact that you're asking this question probably means some part of you already knows. I offer a free 15 minute consultation so you can get a feel for how I work before committing.
I hear this concern a lot, especially from men and from clients dealing with compulsive sexual behaviours. Let me be direct: my practice is built on the belief that shame keeps people stuck. You will never be judged, lectured, or made to feel like there's something fundamentally wrong with you. What you will find is a person who's genuinely in your corner, willing to sit with the hard stuff alongside you.
Yes. Confidentiality is a cornerstone of our work together. What you share in session stays between us, with a few legal exceptions required by Ontario law: if there is risk of harm to yourself or others, if a child is being abused or neglected, or if records are subpoenaed by a court. I'll explain these limits clearly in our first session so there are no surprises.
Yes. Before our first session, you will receive an informed consent form to review and sign. This is a standard and required part of entering a therapeutic relationship in Ontario. The form covers important details including the nature and limits of confidentiality, privileged communication, how your personal health information is stored and protected, your rights as a client, the risks and benefits of therapy, cancellation policies, and the complaints process through the College of Registered Psychotherapists of Ontario (CRPO). I encourage you to read it carefully and bring any questions to our first session. It is designed to protect you and to make sure we are both clear on how our work together will be handled.
Yes. I offer both in person sessions at my Etobicoke office and secure virtual sessions for anyone in Ontario. Many clients appreciate the flexibility of switching between the two depending on their schedule. Virtual sessions are conducted through a secure, encrypted platform.
My office is at 3638 Lake Shore Blvd W, Etobicoke. I see clients in person at this location and also offer virtual sessions across Ontario. You can reach me at (647) 510-7656 to book or ask questions.
CSAT is a specialized certification from the International Institute for Trauma and Addiction Professionals (IITAP). It means I've completed extensive training in treating compulsive sexual behaviours, including understanding the neuroscience, attachment wounds, and relational impact. It also means I follow a structured, evidence based treatment model refined over decades.
I hold a Master of Divinity from Tyndale University, am a Registered Psychotherapist (Qualifying) with the College of Registered Psychotherapists of Ontario, and a Certified Sex Addiction Therapist (CSAT). I bring both clinical expertise and lived understanding of men's mental health to every session.
These are structured group therapy programs specifically for men working through sex addiction recovery. Unlike a general support group, a CSAT recovery group is led by a Certified Sex Addiction Therapist and follows a clinical framework. The group provides accountability, psychoeducation, and a space where men can be honest without judgment. Many clients find that the group experience accelerates their recovery in ways individual therapy alone cannot.
Yes. I work with couples navigating betrayal trauma from sexual addiction, helping both partners process the pain, rebuild trust, and decide what their relationship can become. I also offer general couples therapy for partners dealing with communication breakdowns, emotional distance, or conflict patterns. Whether you're in crisis or just stuck, couples work can create real movement.
A general therapist can provide support, but sex addiction has specific dynamics (shame cycles, disclosure processes, partner betrayal trauma, relapse patterns) that require specialized training. A CSAT (Certified Sex Addiction Therapist) has completed extensive training through IITAP specifically for treating compulsive sexual behaviours. If you're dealing with pornography addiction, compulsive sexual behaviour, or sexual acting out, working with a CSAT gives you access to a structured, evidence-informed treatment model that general training doesn't cover.
Frequency isn't the defining factor. The difference is about control, consequences, and compulsivity. A high sex drive doesn't interfere with your relationships, career, or mental health. Sex addiction involves continued behaviour despite negative consequences, escalation over time, failed attempts to stop, and using sexual behaviour to manage emotions. If you're unsure, our free sexual behaviour self-assessment at addypsychotherapy.com/assessment can help you reflect on what you're experiencing.
Yes. Partners of people with sex addiction often experience betrayal trauma, which is a legitimate trauma response. I provide individual therapy for partners and couples therapy when both partners are ready. The couples work typically begins after both individuals have done some of their own processing. I also facilitate therapeutic disclosure, a structured process for sharing the full truth in a way that's safe for both partners.
Individual sessions start at $190 for 50 minutes. Couples sessions are $230 for 50 minutes. I also offer a free 15 minute consultation for new clients. Most extended health benefit plans cover sessions with a Registered Psychotherapist (Qualifying). I offer a sliding scale for clients who need financial flexibility. See the full fees and insurance page for details.
OHIP does not cover psychotherapy with a Registered Psychotherapist. However, most extended health benefit plans through employers do cover RP sessions. Check with your insurance provider to confirm your coverage. I provide receipts after each session that you can submit for reimbursement.
Yes. I offer secure virtual sessions for anyone in Ontario. Virtual therapy is conducted through an encrypted platform and provides the same quality care as in person sessions. Many clients appreciate the flexibility of switching between virtual and in person depending on their week.
Most clients start with weekly sessions, which allows us to build momentum and go deeper more quickly. As you progress, we may move to biweekly. For clients in sex addiction recovery, weekly sessions are strongly recommended, especially in the early phases. We'll always discuss frequency together and adjust based on what's working.
You can book directly through Jane App, or use the contact form on this site to send me a message. I also offer a free 15 minute phone consultation for anyone who wants to ask questions or get a sense of whether we're a good fit before committing to a full session.
